switching gears

The final details for the Taiwan tour arrived today, courtesy of Sumeeta Chandravarkar, our wonder-organizer at the Canadian Trade of Office in Taipei. I'll be travelling with six amazing Canadian authors-- Hiromi Goto, Rita Wong, Glen Lowry, Roy Miki, Wayde Compton and Fred Wah. We'll visit nine Taiwanese universities in a week. After that, Roy and I go on to Nagoya and Tokyo. I'm really looking forward to this. I'm a little trepidatious about travelling around on my bum leg. I get to switch to a fibreglass cast just before I go. I'm not sure if it's a walking cast or if I still have to keep all weight off my leg.

It snowed last night in Calgary. Andrea Ryer and Jason Christie came to take me out for dinner. We went to Phuong Vi, one of my favourite neighbourhood Vietnamese places. We met Travis at Ming for a drink afterwards. I'm getting handy with the crutches. When will they invent mechanical wings for people who can't walk?
